The short answer

As of 21 Oct 2026 · Last checked 2026-10-21 · We'll update this when Snap opens prescription ordering.

Yes: Snap says SPECS take custom single-vision prescription inserts from -8 to +2 diopters, made by a partner and shipped separately from the glasses[1]. Snap writes the name as "SPECS"; its earlier glasses were called Spectacles, and nothing here assumes the old Spectacles prescription options carry over.

  1. Official range: single vision, -8 to +2 diopters. Stated in Snap's support FAQ[1] and on the product page[2].
  2. Inserts made by a partner, not lenses built in by Snap. Snap says a "certified third-party partner" makes them and they're "shipped separately"[2]. The partner isn't named yet.
  3. You order them later, on the partner's website. Request prescription support during pre-order; Snap will share how to complete the purchase closer to your ship date[1].
  4. Insert orders are non-refundable. That's separate from the glasses, which have a 14-day return window and a refundable pre-order deposit[2].
  5. FSA/HSA: maybe. Snap says eligibility "may apply" and to check with your benefits provider[2].
  6. The glasses: from $2,195, expected to ship starting fall 2026[2], pre-order in the US, UK and France[1], with a $200 refundable deposit (Snap's launch release; the product page just says "refundable deposit")[3].
  7. Not published: insert price, partner name, cylinder (astigmatism) limit, whether -8/+2 is sphere or total power, progressives or prism, turnaround, and UK/France insert availability. We don't estimate these.

Does my prescription fit?

-8 to +2 covers short-sighted (minus) prescriptions down to -8.00 and long-sighted (plus) prescriptions up to +2.00, in single vision only. The plus side is narrow: many long-sighted wearers, and anyone who needs reading or progressive lenses, fall outside it. Check your numbers in the prescription checker, and see smart glasses for high prescriptions if you're beyond -8.

How ordering will work

Based only on Snap's published wording.

  1. Pre-order the glasses on SPECS.com and pay the refundable deposit[2].
  2. Request prescription support during pre-order[1].
  3. Closer to your ship date, Snap sends details on how to complete the purchase[1].
  4. You submit your prescription and pay on the partner's secure website[2].
  5. The inserts ship separately from the glasses[2].

Before you order inserts: they're non-refundable, so make sure your prescription is current. The glasses deposit stays refundable: Snap says you can cancel "at any time before your SPECS smart glasses order ships"[1].

FAQ

Do Snap SPECS work with prescription glasses?

Yes, with custom single-vision prescription inserts from -8 to +2 diopters, made through Snap's "trusted prescription partners" (specs.com support FAQ, read 21 Oct 2026). You can't wear your own glasses underneath; the insert sits in the SPECS frame.

What's the maximum prescription for SPECS?

-8 to +2 diopters, single vision only (specs.com/support). Snap hasn't published a cylinder (astigmatism) limit or said whether the range is sphere or total power.

Can I get progressive lenses in SPECS?

Not as of 21 Oct 2026. Snap only lists single-vision inserts. Progressives, bifocals and prism aren't mentioned.

How much do SPECS prescription inserts cost?

Not published as of 21 Oct 2026. The glasses start at $2,195; the insert price will be shown on the partner's website when prescription ordering opens.

Who makes the SPECS prescription inserts?

A "certified third-party partner", in Snap's words. Snap hasn't named the partner yet.

Can I return SPECS prescription inserts?

No. Snap says that because each insert is made specifically for you, prescription insert orders are non-refundable. The glasses themselves have a 14-day return window.

Can I use FSA/HSA for SPECS prescription inserts?

Snap says "FSA/HSA eligibility may apply. Please consult your benefits provider for coverage details." It doesn't say the inserts are eligible.

When can I order SPECS prescription inserts?

You can request prescription support during pre-order, and Snap says it will share details on how to complete your purchase closer to your ship date (specs.com/support). The glasses are expected to ship starting fall 2026 in the US, UK and France.
